Our teacher is Mrs Holden and our teaching assistants are Mr Topping & Mrs Lowe.

We look forward to working with you and your child and welcome any support you can offer in class.

If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to pop in.

Seesaw

We share all our wonderful learning on Seesaw.  Please log in to your child's account to see what we're up to.  Make a comment on Seesaw and tell us what you think.

Curriculum

Please see below for information about what we are learning this term.

Our Curriculum plan gives an overview of each subject and the Knowledge Organiser provides detailed information about our current history topic.

Spring Term Learning

This term we focus on our geographical learning to explore the continents and oceans of the world.  We shall locate places around the world, identify the equator and understand how the world is split into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.  We shall locate the Arctic and Antarctic and understand how a map is a stretched out globe.

The frozen north will be our focus for our English writing and class book and we will produce art work inspired by Inuit artists.

If you have any skills you'd like to share with the class in order to support  our learning further, please let us know.

Spellings

Spellings which follow a specific spelling rule will be taught in class and sent home each fortnight to be learnt.  Please encourage your child to explain the rule and find other words which fit.  This will help them to learn the pattern rather than just the one off word and therefore will become embedded.

We shall also work on the Year 3 & 4 statutory word list throughout the year but please feel free to support your child in learning these words too at any point.

See below for the statutory Year 3 and 4 Word List

See below for the fortnightly spelling word lists.

Autumn Term Learning

Colosseum Class will be going back in time to explore the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.  We shall find out about how life was different through these changing periods and the effect they had on the way we live today.

To deepen our understanding and in order to handle artefacts and see primary resources for ourselves, we will be having a visitor from Chippenham Museum and also be going to Stonehenge.

Our English writing and class book will also be linked to this period of history.

If you have any skills you'd like to share with the class in order to support our learning further, please let us know.

Reading

We would love it if your child reads to you or you read to them every night. We understand that this is not always physically possible but if you can do at least three listens per week, that would be great. It is a known fact that children's vocabulary and understanding is improved by reading everyday. Please talk to your children about their reading. It should be a pleasurable experience with a mutual enjoyment of storylines and characters. Question them about their understanding and make predictions about the next chapters.

Times Tables

Please encourage your children to go on their TTrockstars login -they will show amazing improvement in their speed of recall.

PE

We will be doing PE on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.  Please make sure you have the appropriate school PE kit, including properly fitted trainers. Long hair must be tied up.

Daily Mile

Colosseum Class will continue to run the Daily Mile.  We shall work up to doing it everyday but please ensure your child has their trainers in school everyday.

The Daily Mile gets children out of the classroom for fifteen minutes every day to run or jog, at their own pace, with their classmates, making them fitter, healthier, and more able to concentrate in the classroom.  For more information, see this website: https://thedailymile.co.uk/
