Charles Darwin Class (Yr 5/6)

Welcome to Charles Darwin Class

Our teacher is Mrs Wynn and our teaching assistants are Ms Baldwin, Mrs Burns, Mrs Dowson and Mrs Vickers.

Mrs Dennett teaches us on a Wednesday ( alternate mornings/afternoons)

We share all our wonderful learning on Seesaw.

Please log in to your child's account to see what we are up to.

In all of our learning we hope to provide the feeling of awe and wonder and the appreciated of the world we live in. The more we learn, the more we appreciate how lucky we are. The more we understand our planet, the more questions we have and the more we want to find out and discover. We are so grateful for this world that we live in. The video link below explains how inspirational our planet and our learning is.

Awe and Wonder

You can encourage this sense of awe and wonder at home. Have a look at this link from the Doing Good Together organisation for some tips on encouraging curiosity, appreciation and discovery at home.

Cultivating Wonder and Awe in our Children

Please see the link below for our curriculum map which gives a breakdown of the different subjects and the skills and knowledge we are covering this term.

You will also find further information about our class and our learning below.

We share information and images of your children via Seesaw so we encourage you to download the app and you will be able to see activities, photos and videos when they are uploaded. It is a lovely way to share the wonderful work your children do.

Our PE sessions are on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Our sports coach, Mr Kingwell, teaches the Thursday afternoon session. Please make sure you come to school wearing your PE kit on those days and be prepared for the weather. Generally, PE will take place outside so trainers and warmer clothes are appropriate.

Star of the Week will be awarded on a Friday. The child will be chosen for being a true example of 'Being a Light for All to See'. They might be a Shining Light and have stood out for an amazing piece of work, behaviour or attitude. They may be a Guiding Light and have helped or supported others in class. They might be a Leading Light and set a great example in their learning or conduct, or they might have been a Welcoming Light and have made a new child or visitor feel welcome or safe in our school.

The following Friday the superstar has the opportunity to do a talk about themselves - it could be bringing in things to show, a PowerPoint presentation, sharing photographs, talking about themselves etc. It is a lovely way for the children to shine and for us to get to know each other better.

The children will be given a reading book from school to enjoy at home. Please can they bring these books to school everyday so that they can read in school as well. They have been asked to read at home as often as possible - for at least 10 minutes a day. Obviously there will be some days when this is not possible, so try to aim for at least 3 times a week.

Your home learning is to read your reading books and to practise your spellings on a daily basis. As well as this, TTRockstars is a great way  to practise your times tables and it is great fun too!

Spellings are sent home each week. Spelling books need to be in school everyday. You will have a spelling test on a Friday. The statutory word lists below are all the spellings Year 5/6 are expected to spell correctly by the end of Year 6. The Year 3/4 list contains words that the children are expected to spell correctly by the end of Year 4.
