Meet the Teacher Meeting September 2023

Light of the Week

In Jane Goodall Class, we choose a Light of the Week every Friday.  The child will be chosen for being a true example of 'Being a Light for All to See'. A 'Shining Light' could be a child who has really stood out during the week for their behaviour or their learning in a particular subject; a 'Guiding Light' could be a child who has helped the class as a whole or supported someone in need; a 'Leading Light' could be someone who has set a brilliant example in their learning or their conduct; and a 'Welcoming Light' could be someone who has made a new child or visitor feel welcome and safe in our school.

Seesaw

We share all our learning on Seesaw.  Please log in to your child's account to see what we're up to, make a comment or send a message.

Curriculum

Please see below for information about what we are learning. Our Curriculum Maps give a breakdown of the different subjects and the skills and knowledge we are covering this term.

Spellings

We are learning the Year 3/4 spelling patterns using the Spelling Shed website and your child has their own login to access the games relating to their weekly spelling list.  The spelling lists are updated on Monday mornings and the children will have a copy in their Yellow Reading Record to practise at home. Tests are on the following Monday morning. If your child has a personalised Precision Spelling list, they will work on this separately but will still have access to the Spelling Shed website.

We will also revisit the Year 2 common exception words and will work on the Year 3 & 4 statutory word list throughout the year. Please feel free to support your child in learning these words at any point.

Reading

We would love it if your child reads to you or you read to them every night. We understand that this is not always physically possible, but if you can do at least three listens per week that would be great. It is a known fact that children's vocabulary and understanding is improved by reading every day. Please talk to your children about their reading. It should be a pleasurable experience with a mutual enjoyment of storylines and characters. Question them about their understanding and make predictions about the next chapters.

Year Group Reading Spines

In addition to reading level books, we have 50 recommended books for each year group to read and your child will be able to choose the books that interest them. There is a real mixture of picture books, graphic novels and chapter books for all year groups. On top of the 50 recommended books, we also have a great variety of books that are year group linked.

Times Tables

Please encourage your children to go on their TTrockstars login -they will show amazing improvement in their speed of recall.

Doodle Maths

All children have a DoodleMaths login.  This allows for daily practice sessions to support learning across the Maths curriculum.

PE

We will be doing PE on Thursday and Friday morning, so all children will need to arrive on those days in appropriate kit. There is no spare kit to borrow, so please ensure that your child is wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts or leggings with non-slip trainers or plimsolls.  If the weather is cold, they may wear tracksuits or a hoodie. Multi-coloured gym wear or football shirts are not acceptable. Long hair must be tied up.
